Import payments and documentary consistency (foreign exchange framework)

24 September 2026

View link
  • Import payments are made through a domiciliating bank within the regulatory framework; documents (contract, invoice, transport document, customs declaration) must be consistent.
  • Advance payment limit: generally 30% of the imported value; up to 50% for certain sectors (per IGOC 2026 and banking practice).
  • "Four parties consistency": the paying and receiving parties must match the contract, invoice and customs declaration; otherwise the bank may request justification or refuse the transaction.
  • Purpose: reliability of exchange statistics and verification of the reality of operations; irregularities may trigger ex-post checks (bank, customs, exchange office).
  • Note: framework only; limits, document lists and exceptions follow IGOC 2026 and the bank.
